Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza di Biumo.
Marquis Paolo Antonio Menafoglio ordered the construction of the villa during the mid-18th century. Surrounded by a magnificent Italian Renaissance garden, the villa is famous worldwide for its collection of contemporary works of art, which Giuseppe Panza di Biumo collected there from the ‘50s onwards. Over one hundred works by contemporary artists, in addition to rich furnishings dating from the 16th
to the 20th
century, and an important collection of Art and Pre-Columbian pieces, are on show in the large halls and in the stables. It is currently owned by Fai.
The works for Sacro Monte di Varese
started in 1604 thanks to large donations. All building work was completed in 1698 and the complex has remained unchanged since. The architectural style of the chapels, the triumphal arches and the fountains, the statues and the frescoes decorating the chapels, are excellent examples of 17th
century religious art in the Milan area.
